[narrator]: if you like someone on this show, it's best not to get too attached. [sword swipe] welcome to watchmojo.com, and today we'll be counting down our picks for the top 10 game of thrones character deaths. [dragon growling]
What Game Of Thrones Character Are You, [screaming][dragon growling] [narrator]: it should be painfully obvious, but spoiler alert! for this list, we're looking at game of thrones deaths that have found their way onto the small screens only. therefore, deaths from the books or ones we did not see, like the devastating end of the hound
do not qualify. [the hound, agonizing]: kill me! kill me! [narrator]: please, also be advised that this video contains mature and graphic content. [hitting ground] [blood squirting] #10: lysa arryn [sansa]: you wanted to see me, aunt lysa? [narrator]: the unstable sister of stark matriarch catelyn stark,
lysa's life and death was a study in absurdity and poor self-esteem. [sansa]: i'm so sorry, aunt lysa. i never should have hit robin. i know it. i promise... [lysa]: don't be coy with me, you little whore.[sansa]: ...it won't happen again. [lysa]: you kissed him. you kissed petyr. [narrator]: whether it was breastfeeding her son at an age far older than usual, or her incredible jealousy of the relationship of her husband with her niece, she is a woman of extremes. [lysa]: look down! look down! look down! look down!
[littlefinger]: lysa! [narrator]: sure, she had good reasons to suspect that her husband's loyalties may not have been with here, as evidenced by the fact that he seemed to relish pushing her to her death through the moon door, but she never should have come between littlefinger and his goals. [fading scream] #9: jojen reed [jojen]: i'm jojen reed. [narrator]: the character that was going to give us the answers to the puzzle that is bran's warg abilities, jojen may not have quite fulfilled that early promise, but he certainly helped bran begin the journey to his fate.
[jojen]: we've come a long way to find you, brandon. and we have much farther to go. [narrator]: the boy's loyalty to his role as the shepherd of his ally is what ultimately led to his death though, as jojen's only concern was aiding bran. [jojen]: bran! [suspense music] [sword fight] [jojen]: save yourself, now! [narrator]: stabbed multiple times by a wight, jojen is then mercy-killed by his sister
and his corpse is destroyed so he does not become a wight himself. rough. [stabbing] #8: ygritte [john snow]: ygritte! [ygritte]: you swore some vows. i want you to break 'em. [narrator]: a fierce warrior who was as quick with the retort as she was with the bow, ygritte was a deadly force who shouldn't have been underestimated.
[bow shooting] [screaming] [narrator]: her only weakness was her love for john, and that made her unable to kill him with an arrow. not once, but twice. [ygritte]: you know nothing, jon snow. [narrator]: unforunately, the second time, she was too focued on john and didn't see the child archer that would ultimately prove her undoing. [sudden scream] #7: shae
[shae]: tywin? my lion. [narrator]: a former prostitute who won the heart of tyrion lannister, her fate was sealed the moment that his father discovered their relationship, despite the fact that tyrion married sansa. [groaning] [narrator]: when tywin threatens her life, tyrion has no choice but to send her away. [tyrion]: you'll have a comfortable life in pentos. bronn will escort you to your ship.
[narrator]: since he can't bear the thought of her death, he lies and tells her he doesn't care about her. so she weeps. [tyrion]: i can't be in love with a whore. [narrator]: we can't exactly be sure of what back-alley dealings went on, but it's not surprising that her return to testify against her former lover as well as the fact that tyrion fights shae in his father's bed ultimately led to her suffocation. [slapping]
#6: viserys targaryen [viserys]: i need a large army. i'm the last hope of a dynasty, morment. [narrator]: a real prick with delusions of grandeur, viserys gave his sister's hand in marriage to a man who should never be trifled with, khal drogo. [viserys]: i would let his whole tribe f**k you, all forty thousand men and their horses too if that's what it took. [narrator]: however, viserys soon began to feel like he was on the outside looking in
and made a very rash decision. [viserys]: i want what i came for. i want the crown you promised me. [narrator]: by threatening to kill daenerys, who drogo had grown to truly love, viserys finally got the crown he so desired when molten gold was poured all over his head and he was killed in agony. [khal drogo]: a crown for king. [pouring molten gold][viserys screaming in agony] #5: joffrey baratheon
[joffrey]: kneel! [narrator]: arguably one of the most hated teens in all of television, joffrey was a horrible brat whose every whim was granted due to the seemingly royal blood in his veins. [joffrey]: time has come, for all of us, to contemplate our history. [narrator]: taking great delight in something as simple as lording his authority over his subjects or as horrific as showing his fiancee sansa the decapitated head of her father, joffrey's greatest skills were in torture and death. [joffrey]: it's not meant as an honor. [narrator]: that is why audiences everywhere cheered in delight as the sniveling little jerk
began to cough and then rive in horrible pain, finally succumbing to poison. [joffrey, groaning in agony] #4: tywin lannister [tywin]: go on, say something clever. [narrator]: it takes a man of incredible authority to send the king to his room, and the only man in westeros who could pull off such a feat is the one-time hand of the king and the insanely rich tywin lannister. [tywin]: not next year, not tomorrow, now!
[narrator]: concerned first and foremost with the legacy of his family's name, we can only assume that he spent his dying moments reflecting on the fact that it was his own son, tyrion, who killed him. [tywin]: you're afraid of a dead whore? [crossbow shooting] [striking the wall] [narrator]: maybe he should have been a little less concerned with perception if he wanted to live a little bit longer than he did. [tywin]: you're no son of mine.
[tyrion]: i am your son. i have always been your son. [falling to the ground] [sad music] #3: eddard stark [ned stark]: i am eddard stark, lord of winterfell and hand of the king. [narrator]: perhaps the most just man in the entirety of the series, ned's turn as the hand of the king should have had a stabilizing effect on the seven kingdoms, that is, if joffrey hadn't taken the throne.
[joffrey]: bring me his head. [narrator]: instead, eddard finds himself arrested and thrown in a dungeon where he is forced to confess to crimes he did not commit. [ned]: you think my life is some precious thing to me? that l would trade my honor for a few more years of what? of wall. [narrator]: despite giving in to these ridiculous demands, he is beheaded in front of two of his daughters anyway. and from then on, every viewer instantly knew that no character on the show was safe.
[sword swiping] #2: oberyn martell [oberyn]: you learn this during your years in the fighting pits? [narrator]: he may not have lasted an entire season, but the appealing way he was utterly annihilated earned him the runner-up position on this list. [oberyn]: i am the brother of elia martell. and do you know why i've come all the way to this stinking shit-pile of a city? for you. [narrator]: a renowned and feared fighter who we never got to see in true glory,
prince oberyn spends his final days in search of vengeance for his dead sister and her children. [oberyn]: say it. you raped her. you murdered her. [fighting] [oberyn]: you killed her children. [narrator]: given the opportunity to battle the mountain, the man actually responsible for the death of his family members, oberyn's grandstanding resulted in his brooming gregor clegane. but, his fall ultimately and literally squeezed the house martell's member's head until it popped. [the mountain]: elia martell.
[gouging eyes] [oberyn screaming] [mountain]: i killed her children. then i raped her. [awfully screaming] [mountain]: then i smashed her head in like this! [head smashing] [ellaria, yelling in horror] [narrator]: before we reveal our top pick,
here are a few honorable mentions. [blood spraying] [men and women cry confusedly ][sword fight] [spear and sword fighting] [brienne]: no! [boy]: stop it! [repetitively striking with sword] [brian, in pain]: oh![repetitively striking with sword] [people yelling in horror][repetitively striking with sword]
[kicking cassel's head] #1: catelyn, robb and talisa stark [catelyn, yelling in pain] [narrator]: ok. so this isn't just one character, but we can't even imagine any argument that would make sense for any other death to top this list. [repetitive stabs] [talisa, yelling in pain][repetitive stabs] [narrator]: the unexpected killing of robb stark, his wife talisa and his mother catelyn nearly took everyone who've not read the books by surprise.
[roose bolton]: the lannisters send their regards. [narrator]: the fact that they went so far as to show the stabbing of an unborn fetus, a gruesomely slipped women's throat and the killing of the direwolfs was icing on the cake. [slipping catelyn's throat] [narrator]: do you agree with our list? [tywin]: the gods have made their will known. [narrator]: which game of thrones character death is the most memorable to you?
